[Terra sits on his bed. He looks perplexed.]

This is...a little off topic from what's been going on, but I figure we could all use a change of pace anyway.

So, I was wondering what the rules of the internet are? It came up in our experiment this week and Liz and MakubeX would only tell me so much. It sounded like there were a lot of them though. Why is it so complicated? Even being a Keyblade Master doesn't have over 30 rules.

I'm saying there might not be anymore than was listed...
optimistickey: (Confused - Roxas who?)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-13 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
...There's rules for the internet?
optimistickey: (Thinking - So this means...)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-13 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
So...what happens if you don't follow them?
optimistickey: (Thinking - Are you pondering what I'm po)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-15 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that'd help for keeping really bad people off of it? But you'd have to make sure that everyone knew the rules in the first place...
optimistickey: (Concerned - Should I follow?)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-15 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe...but then who set these guidelines in the first place?
optimistickey: (Neutral - Hmmm)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-17 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe...but then it's still a matter of who exactly made them?
optimistickey: (Interested - I'm making a point here)

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-18 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno! Maybe the site that lists them all says who made them.
optimistickey: (Neutral - Knowing smile)

The KH version of Google is just called MOOGLE

[personal profile] optimistickey 2012-01-19 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Probably so. But I guess it's not that big of a deal up here.
wavesinherheart: (but sometimes I sits and wonders)

[personal profile] wavesinherheart 2012-01-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure you need to know them all?
wavesinherheart: (oh... no I'm not that important)

[personal profile] wavesinherheart 2012-01-15 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I suppose you're right.

Research suggests that the most recognized "Rules of the Internet" are Rule 34, regarding the existence of pornography, and rule 63, regarding something colloquially referred to as "genderbending."

The former rule states that if something exists, someone has created pornography applying or featuring that thing. A corollary to this rule states that if it is discovered that something has not been applied to pornography, pornography will spontaneously appear to fill the void. The latter rule states that, given any male character in media, someone will have created a naked, attractive female version of said character.

While other rules are referenced, these two are the most commonly used, in conjunction with the popular truism that the internet exists for pornography.

[personal profile] forthescience 2012-01-15 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
The veracity of that truism is somewhat in doubt, but there is a great deal of pornography on the internet. While it is not the overall purpose, many people employ it to that end. Popular truisms are often untrue; for example, "Genocide is bad." While most people see this statement as obvious and true, others may understand that you cannot do science without breaking a few eggs.
